Former Senate Committees
Throughout the Student Senate's history, many committees have been formed and dissolved.
In addition to the below committees, there are also several existing committees that, for a significant period of their history, went by other names. These include the Residential Life and Dining Committee and the Community Relations Committee.

The Student Government Communications Committee (SGCC) was a former standing committee of the Student Senate and Executive Board intended to promote information and campus engagement in student government. It was established in 201X under the 4Xth Senate and FY1X Executive Board.
However, as time went on the SGCC found itself in an unstable position. The marketing and information needs of the Senate and Executive Board differed significantly, and starting in Fall 2024 the SGCC began to emphasize short-form, informal content. This content led to higher engagement and could often be tied to the Senate's advocacy, but struggled to meet the wants of the Executive Board. Pressure was put on the SGCC to correct this problem, but this only put stress on the members of the committee.
In September 2025, the chair of SGCC resigned, citing stress and discomfort working in the position. They were not the first to do so: had a new chair been appointed, they would have been the fourth person in two years to hold the position. They called for a change to the SGCC's structure. Debate began between the Senate and Executive Board -- many Senators favored dissolving the committee entirely, leaving each board in charge of their own communications, while many members of the Executive Board favored reforming SGCC, such as through a co-chair system.
Ultimately, those who favored dissolution won the debate after a closed session of the Senate, and on September XXth, 2025, the Student Government Communications Committee was unilaterally dissolved by the Senate and replaced with the Senate Communications and Engagement Committee. A week later, the Executive Board established the Executive Communications Committee.
As of 2026, it is the general consensus that due to CLAUSE XXX in the Rensselaer Union Constitution, joint committees between the Senate and E-Board are unconstitutional. If true, this would make the SGCC illegitimate through the entirety of its existence.
